Education

Mission: The objectives of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution are historic preservation, promotion of education and patriotic endeavor.

Mission: Over three quarters of Cornerstone's students are African-American and almost half come from families with less than $25,000 in family income. In fact, over 60% of the students come from households that qualify for free or reduced lunches -- a key benchmark of poverty in public education. Most if not all of Cornerstone's students come from families who could not afford an elite, private education but who desire an alternative to the failing D.C. public school system. These families seek not only a solid foundation in academics but also in moral instruction. Cornerstone schools equip students with the knowledge, skills and values necessary to become responsible, well-educated leaders who serve others in light of Christ and His Truth. The life, ministry and saving grace of Jesus Christ are central to our mission. Programs: We operate two private, Christian elementary schools. Cornerstone Community School is located on Capitol Hill. Cornerstone Beulah Christian Academy is located in the Deanwood Heights section of Washington, D.C. Cornerstone's academic environment is aided through its commitment to small class sizes (maximum 15 students per class), which provide more opportunity for one-on-one instructional guidance, along with nurturing and consistent discipline. Our teachers are highly trained and qualified, with some working toward completion of their master's degree in education or administration. Our curriculum guides are designed around national standards and best practices from across the United States. Further, our curriculum incorporates the cornerstone of faith. Our faith-based instruction provides the best possible environment for children to grow academically and spiritually. Cornerstone's community involvement is a truly unique aspect of its program and a vital part of its existence. Our students are involved in community service throughout the school year because Cornerstone believes in equipping our student to become civic leaders. Lastly, while at Cornerstone, all students take a foreign language, music, art and PE classes.

Mission: To use service as a tool to strengthen bodies by using existing resources to meet hunger and nutritional needs in our community; empower minds by providing leadership and service learning opportunities to students and educational benefits to adults, seniors, children, and families in need; and build communities by fostering a new generation of community-minded adults through resourceful and mutually beneficial partnerships among students, social service agencies, businesses and schools. Programs: Founded in 2001, the campus kitchens project is the national program of renowned local nonprofit and social enterprise, dc central kitchen. On 63 university and high school campuses across the country, students transform unused food from dining halls, grocery stores, restaurants, and farmers' markets into meals for their community. Because food alone will never end hunger, campus kitchens also develop innovative local solutions that go 'beyond the meal and target hunger's root causes. Running a campus kitchen builds leadership skills, offers entrepreneurial opportunities, and fosters personal and community relationships that students both use today and carry with them into future careers. During 2018, ckp engaged more than 32,000 students who have provided more than 72,000 volunteer hours recycling approximately 1 million pounds of food and preparing/delivering more than 375,000 meals.

Mission: The associations exist to foster friendship and learning in their communities and they provide a means for members to continue their active affiliation with the Society after graduation.
